Error in packed file *.7z.001 (u/i *.7z.009) files
- Quote
Postby *Robbie »
Hi there
Beginning with TC 11.0, I experience an issue with unpacking 7z files (downloaded from promods.net):
When I use TC 10 everything works OK. (for all downloaded files checksum check is ok.)
== size ==== == name ==========
262.144.000 promods-v266.7z.001
262.144.000 promods-v266.7z.002
262.144.000 promods-v266.7z.003
262.144.000 promods-v266.7z.004
262.144.000 promods-v266.7z.005
262.144.000 promods-v266.7z.006
262.144.000 promods-v266.7z.007
262.144.000 promods-v266.7z.008
158.983.752 promods-v266.7z.009
I use the following method for unpacking:
mouse/cursor on the first (promods-v266.7z.001) file and press enter:
- TC11 gives error message: Error in packed file {path}promods-v266.7z.001!
- TC10 displays a list of files that are packed within the 9 files. After that files can be copied to destination folder.
kind regards
Rob

Enter on a file with the extension .7z.001 or similar requires that these extensions are registered
for any program, which is not the case by default.

What happens if you press Ctlr+PgDn on the 262.144.000 promods-v266.7z.001 file?

Hi 2petermad
TC11
[Ctrl]+[Page Down] results in exactly the same error message as enter on the .001 file.
TC10
Strange is that [Ctrl]+[Page Down] also results in exactly the same error message. However [Enter] on .001 works
How to reproduce:
- get some files approx 10GB in total
- open 7z(fm) and pack these files to a folder using "Split to volumes, bytes": 250MB
- wait until done
- press [Enter] on .001 file using TC11 / TC10
kind regards
Rob

The problem is caused by the 7zip dll code, it works with the old dlls from TC10. However, the dlls fix a severe security error in the 7zip unpacker, so I cannot recommend using the older dlls. I'm currently working on a solution.

This should be fixed in Total Commander 11.02 RC1, please test it!
15.09.23 Fixed: The internal 7zip unpacker couldn't open and unpack multi-part 7zip archives larger than about 250 MB (64)

Hi
Tested (with TC11.02RC1 and experienced that it is fixed.
=> [Enter] on .001: OK, [F3] (view) file: OK, unpacking to separate folder: OK. File compare by content with 7zip earlier unpacked files: all OK.
=> [Ctrl][Page Down]: still results in Error in packed file path\filename.001!
=> Files/Compare By Content: NOK, no msg 'unpacking' I only hear the 'Critical Stop' system sound. (same as TC10)
Kind Regards!

Thanks for confirming the fix!
Files/Compare By Content: NOK, no msg 'unpacking' I only hear the 'Critical Stop' system sound. (same as TC10)
What do you mean? Could you give me more details? When I select 2 files inside the large multi-part archive and choose menu Files - Compare by content, the two files get unpacked just fine and compared with each other.

Tested (with TC11.02RC1 and and also TC10:
(left view)
- [Enter] on .001:
TC displays the files in the packed files .001 u/i .009
in the other view (right view) i have the already unpacked files. Unpacked with 7zip before the tc11.02rc1 beta was out.
cursor on both right and left view on the same file name. (not needed but just to be shure.)
menu: Files / Compare By Content...
=> Files/Compare By Content: NOK, I only hear the 'Critical Stop' system sound.

Sorry, I cannot reproduce that. Maybe you have one of the plugins 7z or total7zip installed?
When you press Alt+Enter on a file in the archive, does it show "7zip (dll)"?

Hi *ghisler(Author)
Alt+Enter on a file in the archive gives:
-------------------------------------------------------------
File: promods-assets-v266.scs
Packer: 7zip (dll)
Original zise 2.955.482.457 bytes
Packed size: 0 bytes
Compression ration: 100%
Method: LZMA2
Date 2023-09-07
Time 13:44:21
Attributes -a--
-------------------------------------------------------------
i'll try without any addons later and with RC2 and report further. (this will take some time.)
(currently sick at home; i do not have the 'speed' i would wish)
Kind Regards!

got it, it was an old (2011-10-24) 7zip plugin in the PlugIns\wcx\ folder.
I disabled both:
- PlugIns\wcx/7zip
- PlugIns-64\wcx\Total7zip
everything OK now, even [Ctrl] + [Page Down] (both TC10 and TC11.02RC2 works.
I guess I have the check on old plugins
Thanks again for this GREAT application that I use every day.
Kind regards
Rob
