Simple Yet Fun Additions to Your Mardi Gras Celebration with Kids
If you'd like to celebrate Mardi Gras with your kids in a fun way, it's smart to have a few simple, age-appropriate activities to enjoy.
Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) is a big celebration the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday. This holiday has been celebrated for hundreds of years.
Mardi is French for Tuesday. Gras is French for fat. Mardi Gras was a time to enjoy rich foods and parties prior to the start of Lent in the Roman Catholic church.

Have a variety of coloring tools, like:
- crayons
- markers
- color pencils
- chalk pastels
- oil pastels
- Kwik Stix (or other temper-based paint stick)
Play some jazz, marching music, and other upbeat songs in the background as you color.
You can add some fun decorations with the three colors associated with Mardi Gras:
- Purple for justice
- Green for faith
- Gold for power
