We had the cutest picnic photo shoot with @HannahWongPhoto (Bellingham based) & @TeraMarieFloral (Portland/Seattle Based). Here are my favorite ideas you can use to create your own picnic magic 🧺✨ models:@mckennacardwell @teramariee @meganuqul

Picnics have always been one of my favorite summer activities because they celebrate so many things I love: summer weather, good company, yummy food, and making simple moments special 🤍 I’ve hosted a few this summer (special thanks to the lovely friends & fam who have gone along with my vision 🫶) and they’ve made the most magical celebrations, so I kept track of all the cute ideas we’ve used, and here they are! It’s all in the details:

    1. Choose a dreamy location:

Think parks, lakes, or gardens, but I usually like to choose a location that’s not too difficult to set up at and not too crowded. I personally think your backyard, even if it’s not how you’d like it to be, can be a cozy and cute spot once you’re done setting up.

    2. Set the mood:

A vintage picnic basket, layered blankets, and fresh flowers are my favorites. If you can, candles and lights are lovely if it’ll get dark while you’re picnicking. I also love using wood bowls/boards and stoneware for laying out food, which brings me to…

    3. Choose cute & yummy foods:

Finger foods like sandwiches, a charcuterie board, fresh fruit, or a butter board are my favorites. You can also add some pastries for a daytime picnic or desserts for an evening like macarons or cake (bonus cuteness points if you cut into your cake using wine glasses)🥂

  • 4. Don't forget the drinks!

Lemonade, iced tea, or bubblyare all great choices, or you can get fancy with a summer co*cktail or mocktail. Once you choose, using edible flowers as garnish is a must! Chamomile flowers are my favorite but mint, basil, or fruit also adds interest and can be easier to find.

    5. Flowers Flowers Flowers:

A little can go a long way, but I love incorporating fresh flowers into every aspect of a picnic that I can. Fill the basket, scatter a handful on the tablecloth, freeze edible flowersin ice cubes, and add some organic chamomile flowers to your drinks as garnish! I can usually find chamomile at the grocery store, and some natural grocers or farmers market stands even carry edible flower mixes for salads that are great for freezing into ice cubes or adding as garnish to your charcuterie, butter board, and dessert.

    6. Dress Code:

It’s a little over the top, but I didn’t regret sending out a dress code for a cute picnic I hosted earlier this summer :) I chose summer dresses and everything felt extra fun and special for birthday celebrations. Oh, and don’t forget your jewelry from The Little Refinery ;) Get some permanent bracelets with your friends before-hand or layer on some pearls and flower-themed jewelry.Better yet, add a private permanent jewelry pop-up to your picnic party!
